Prompting fundamentals
Write effective prompts to get the most out of whichever model you choose.
Primio offers multiple AI models with different strengths. Click the model selector button (shows the current model name) in the input area to switch models at any time during a conversation.
Automatically selects the best model based on your prompt. This is the recommended choice for most users — Primio picks the model that best fits each specific request.
The most capable model. Produces the highest-quality code and the best UI designs. Use it when the task is complex or when visual quality matters most.
A balanced choice between speed and intelligence. Handles most features well without the higher token cost of Opus.
The model selector shows four progress bars for each model:
| Dimension | What it measures |
|---|---|
| Speed | How fast the model responds to your prompts |
| Intelligence | Reasoning depth and code quality |
| Token Usage | How many tokens each interaction costs (lower bar = fewer tokens = cheaper) |
| UI Design | Quality of generated user interfaces and visual layouts |
These benchmarks are based on Anthropic’s published model evaluations and Primio’s internal testing.
| Scenario | Recommended model | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Starting a new app from scratch | Auto or Opus | A strong foundation saves rework later |
| Adding a complex feature (auth, navigation, database) | Opus | More thorough implementation, fewer errors |
| Simple text or color change | Sonnet | Fast and efficient for straightforward edits |
| General iteration and refinement | Auto | Let the system optimize for each request |
| Design-heavy work (custom layouts, animations) | Opus | Best visual output; supports Design Library |
| Quick bug fix you can describe precisely | Sonnet | Good balance of speed and quality for clear fixes |
| Exploring ideas / rapid prototyping | Sonnet | Good balance of speed and quality |
Free plan users can only use Auto mode. Upgrade to Build, Grow, or Scale for direct access to specific models.
See Plans & Pricing for plan details.
The Design Library is only available when using Auto or Claude Opus 4.6. If you select Sonnet, the Design Library option won’t appear in the attachments menu.
The model you choose is saved and persists across sessions. You don’t need to reselect it each time you open Primio. Switch whenever your needs change.
